James D. Sewell, Ph.D. appointed to Juvenile Welfare Board
(Pinellas County, FL) James D. Sewell, Ph.D., a thirty-two year law enforcement veteran, has been appointed by Governor Charlie Crist to the JWB (Juvenile Welfare Board) Children’s Services Council. Sewell retired from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in 2005 after holding several positions including Assistant Commissioner and has provided consulting and training services for law enforcement and social service agencies, including the Department of Children and Families, since. He also served as the Police Chief for Gulfport during his law enforcement career.
Dr. Sewell received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Criminology from The Florida State University where he began his career with the F.S.U. Department of Public Safety. He has published two text books and more than fifty journal articles and book chapters dealing principally with law enforcement management and stress.
Sewell becomes one of eleven members of the Juvenile Welfare Board. Six are appointed by the Governor and five are ex-officio members who serve on the Board by virtue of an elected or appointed office they hold in the county.
