Filling The Gaps For Hungry Kids

Children in Pinellas County go hungry every day. Worrying about when they will receive their next meal, 36,000 children are considered food insecure and 7,000 are chronically hungry. Over half receive free or reduced price lunches. JWB and our partners are working collectively to fill the gaps, so all children have access to nourishing food during summer, weekends, and holiday breaks.

Children who do not receive nourishing food on a regular basis struggle to concentrate in school and are at greater risk for school dropout and other negative outcomes. In response, JWB and our partners launched a collective effort to fill the gaps for hungry children. To learn more or to join our local efforts, please email us.

To date, our collective efforts have given thousands of pre-packaged meals to kids for weekend and holiday breaks from school through Nourish to Flourish and Pack-a-Snack; increased the number of free summer meals to kids thanks to new, innovative sites at libraries, churches, and apartment complexes, plus a mobile food truck and targeted marketing efforts; and launched an awareness campaign called Hungry for Your Attention in partnership with the Pinellas Community Foundation.
