Pinellas Grade-Level Reading Campaign
Reading on grade-level by third grade is one of the most important predictors of high school graduation and career success. Yet nationwide, only about one-third of all children achieve this milestone. In response, JWB and our Pinellas County partners launched the Early Readers, Future Leaders: Pinellas Campaign for Grade-Level Reading with a vision that all children will be proficient readers by third grade.

Early Readers Make Future Leaders
Children who struggle to read on grade level face significant and long-term consequences. If left unchecked, the gap widens, leading to school dropout and repeating the cycle of generational poverty. The Early Readers, Future Leaders: Pinellas Campaign for Grade-Level Reading was created to reverse this trend in Pinellas County. Our effort has been endorsed by the National Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, where we have been designated a community network under their movement, and we are part of the Florida Grade-Level Reading Campaign. Locally, we have adopted a Community Solutions Action Plan and are guided by a Pinellas Grade-Level Reading Steering Committee. To learn more or to join our local efforts, please email us.
The Community Solutions Action Plan outlines our collective objectives, which are focused on five core factors associated with third-grade reading proficiency:
- School Readiness
- School Attendance
- Summer Learning
- Parent and Family Engagement
- Healthy Readers
